The Sindh High Court directed eight metropolis hospitals, including three public hospitals – Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and five private health facilities – National Medical Centre (NMC), Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Liaquat National Hospital (LNH), Dr Ziauddin Hospital and South City Hospital to continue their emergency services (ER) and outpatient department (OPD) facilities in the larger public interest.

This decision is taken due to a petition filed against non-provision of stated treatments to general patients at both government and private health facilities due to Covid-19.

Lawyers for three private hospitals including AKUH, LNH, and South City Hospital submitted that these hospitals are already providing emergency and OPD services.

So, the bench reissued notices to other hospitals – Ziauddin Hospital, NMC, and ASH as they were not represented on Wednesday; the court directed their directors and medical superintendents to ensure their representations on the next hearing.
