The Lahore police intensified the lockdown on Sunday as the confirmed COVID-19 cases started to surge in the city.

Faisal Shahzad, operations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) said that the police were directed to intensify the lockdown following a massive spread of the virus. 

Yesterday, Police sealed almost all the localities, streets, and residential areas in Shadbagh, Begum Kot, Shadman, Wahdat Colony, and Shahdara due to the presence of a large number of patients in these areas.

“We established 122 pickets on Sunday on various roads of the city in order to ensure lockdown to prevent spread of the coronavirus,” he said.

He added that only those on various duties such as health professionals,law enforcement, journalists, emergency services etc, are allowed to move on roads.

Senior police officials were also directed to patrol the city to ensure compliance of the lockdown and SOPs.

Three more patients of Covid-19 died in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the Pujnab’s death toll to 81.

Reportedly, the total number of confirmed cases in Punjab reached 5,446. 120 were reported in the last 24 hrs, one of them is the member of the Tableeghi Jamaat.  

Official reports state that more than 22 patients are in critical condition in various quarantine centres across Punjab.
